'And Stan and Beth? Are they your mum and dad?'
She paused then and looks straight at me. 'Kas and me are Sileys. Stand and Beth, they were our owners.'
I know about Sileys. Asylum seekers. Mum used to talk about them all the time, and they were on the news a lot. The government ran offshore camps for years, detention centres. At some stage they decided to bring the young, fit Sileys to the mainland to work. Refugee assignment, they called it. Mum called it slavery.
